TIPS TO GET EXERCISING AGAIN!

Updated: May 15, 2021

Have you lost you exercise mojo?

If you have had a break from exercising and the thought of getting back to the gym or starting a new fitness regime is all too daunting, here are some tips to help you.

I assure you that once you have started there will be no stopping you! As exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, boosting your mood and self-esteem

  1. Start with something easy so that you don’t become too overwhelmed. 10-15 minutes a day is all you need to start with

  2. Find something that you like doing. If you have fun exercising you will be able to keep it up. It could be a gym or working with a personal trainer in small groups, outdoor fitness classes such as FFAP, jogging, running, walking, swimming, taking up tennis or dancing. Some people like running as part of a group and running clubs, such as ‘Running Adventures’ who hold trail runs in the great outdoors, provide great support and coach all abilities from beginners to athletes. Whatever you choose just make sure that you enjoy it!

  3. Workout with a friend and you will help to push one another. You can motivate each other and you can hold each other accountable

  4. Have realistic expectations so set yourself a short-term challenge

  5. If your goal is weight loss, take some measurements and selfies. This is a good way to track your progress but also look beyond this and think in terms of your self-esteem and mood

  6. Schedule time for exercising in your diary so that it is planned into your day. Try to be consistent which will make it is easier for you to form healthy habits. Otherwise, it can be easy to get distracted and caught up with other things. Some people find that exercising in the morning means it’s all done and dusted and it prepares them for the day ahead

  7. If you find things tough, remember how good you will feel afterwards!

Remember do it for YOURSELF!

Take some inspiration from David Arnot at Evolve 353 gym “Find an activity you enjoy, do it with people you like and do it regularly”.

Exercise will improve your health, mood and you will

I find that an electric bike is great to get back into working out. Even though they are electric, you can get just as much out of a ride as you can on a regular bike.
